General description:
Locality: Native, New World. USA- CA, ID, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY
Common Name: Mountain Beautiful Black Searcher
Synonyms: Calosoma monticola Casey, 1897; Callisthenes nevadensis Casey, 1913
Biology:
Macrohabitat: Midlands, 1067-1219 meters altitude. Microhabitat: Open dry ground in sagebrush areas (e.g. Artemisia sp.). Dispersal abilities: Brachypterous, hence flightless thus vagility limited to walking or running. Seasonal occurrence: Adults have been found in February- June and August- September. Behavior: Adults are predaceous on cutworms, wireworms, scarabaeids, coccinelids, meloids, and staphylinds. (Erwin, 2001; Larochelle & Lariviere, 2003; Data from NMNH collection)
