General description: 

Locality: Native, New World. Venezuela.

Common Name: Ensenada Metallic Tiger Beetle

Synonyms: Tetracha ensenada Huber, 1994; Tetracha (Tetracha) ensenada (Huber): Naviaux, 2007

Biology: 

Macrohabitat: Lowlands, sea level- 5 meters altitude, on muddy tidal salt flats and saline areas near shallow ponds and near evaporating ponds among dunes away from the shoreline. Microhabitat: Adults are ground-dwelling on moist, usually saline, substrate near the ocean. Dispersal abilities: Macropterous, primarily cursorial and fast running; adults likely fly. Seasonal occurrence: Adults are active in March- October. Behavior: Adults are nocturnal, taking cover beneath beach stones or detritus during the day. They forage actively near the water's edge at night. They are sometimes gregarious, up to 40 individuals once found together under debris on the tidal flats.
